Earth’s horizon from orbit, a thin band of blue and orange light between the dark planet and black space.

Horizon

Horizon is Brilliant’s record of Discord accounts that spread malware and scams. A partner Brilliant has approved may look an account up and learn whether that account was already identified in another server.

Why it exists

An account that posts a fake login link is usually working through a list of other servers. Each server sees only the activity that occurred in its own channels. Horizon retains those findings in one record. Most of the record comes from protection work Brilliant already performs.

How an account is listed

Aelia lists an account when it removes a file it finds to be malware, or a message carrying a dangerous link, such as a token stealer, an IP logger or a fake login page. Aelia also lists an account when it stops that account for operating as an automated account and spreading spam.

An account is listed for advertising a server that is already on Brilliant’s scam list.

Brilliant’s staff may list an account manually. The listing requires a category, a written reason and screenshots as evidence.

Aelia does not list a server’s owner, its staff, bots, webhooks or apps. Those are accounts Aelia does not punish.

What a lookup shows

A lookup returns a short result: whether the account is listed, the risk level, the categories, an approximate server count (one, two to four, or five or more) and the month in which the account was last seen.

Malware
The account spread files found to be malware.
Malicious links
The account posted token stealers, IP loggers, fake login links or similar.
Automated account
The account operated as an automated account and spread spam.
Scam advertising
The account advertised a known scam server.
Scams
The account conducted scams, such as fake giveaways, trades or support.

Risk is high where staff listed the account, where malware or automation was seen in two or more servers, where the account was seen in three or more servers, or where there were five or more removals in total. Risk is elevated for any malware or automation, or for two or more removals. Risk is low for a single removed link or a single scam advertisement.

What a lookup omits

A lookup does not include server names, messages, files, the reason recorded by staff or the screenshots. Server counts are returned as a range, and dates are returned as a month. Horizon does not retain server names or server IDs. Each server is stored as a keyed fingerprint that can be counted and cannot be converted back into a server.

Who may look an account up

Horizon is not a public list, and there is no search page. Only a partner Brilliant has approved may look up an account, one account at a time, through the Aelia API. Brilliant reviews that use for signs of scraping.

A listing does not ban, kick or block the account. Where a server uses Brilliant, it acts on what Aelia finds in that server’s own channels.

How long a listing lasts

A listing remains until Brilliant’s staff remove it. A listing does not expire.

If a listing is wrong

Brilliant’s staff may remove a listing at any time, together with the records kept for it. If you believe your account was listed in error, report it in the Brilliant support server.
